Kp6 aurora weekend ahead

March 20, 2023

27-day aurora forecast based on data from SWPC

The forecast is updated from an earlier expected Kp4 to Kp6 on March 25 and Kp5 the next day. It should be a wonderful weekend. Fingers crossed.

At this level of geomagnetic activity, the aurora could be seen in Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Tasmania, New Zealand, and north part of the US. Could you imagine what a light show is expected in the polar region where it's still dark enough to see the northern lights?

It's worth finding a location where the sky will be clear on the weekend. And consider that the moon is getting brighter and set later each day. It will be in the northwest (or southwest for the southern hemisphere) around midnight this weekend.

The following week looks even more promising. Let's see the updated 27-day forecast next Monday.
