Kp8 and fantastic aurora again on 23-24
April 24, 2023
The "23" is becoming a magical date for aurora photography. We all remember great northern and southern lights dancing in the sky on March 23-24. It was Kp8 level of geomagnetic activity, which means a G4 geomagnetic storm. And again, there is the same Kp8 level on April 23-24. It's already tons of images of the fantastic aurora captured in different parts of the world. What an excellent start to the week. Let's see what we'll have tonight with the ongoing solar activity.
Other than the first two days, this week is forecasted to be calmer than expected before with the Kp3-Kp4 level of geomagnetic activity. But the sun can surprise you again. So, keep an eye on the 3-day forecast.
The northern lights season is ending in the most popular aurora regions. It's already too bright in the north of Finland, Sweden, and Norway. In about a week, the season is over in Iceland and Fairbanks, Alaska. But in Canada, you can still enjoy the aurora photography in May even when geomagnetic activity is just Kp3-Kp4.
The moon is becoming brighter each day and sets later. So, it will illuminate the landscape quite well in the coming days. Also, in northern regions, the sun still produces the unique twilight glow in the sky in the middle of the night, as it does not go too deep behind the horizon.
Let's see the updated 27-day forecast following Monday.
