Kp3-Kp4 almost all the week at the end of the northern lights season

May 01, 2023

Step’s Aurora Guide app shows 27-day aurora forecast based on data from SWPC

The sun is going to be quite active this week. Kp3-Kp4 level of geomagnetic activity is expected 6 out of 7 days this week. It's good news for those northern lights regions where the season is not over.

Hopefully, you will find a location with a clear sky. In that case, you can still capture the northern lights in the southern part of Iceland, the Faroe Islands, the southern part of Alaska, and all popular aurora regions of Canada. As for year-round aurora regions, the forecasted solar activity needs to be higher. But check the 3-day forecast for the possible surprise from the sun.

It's getting brighter at night each day, with just a few dark hours left for aurora photography in the northern regions. Even quite bright northern lights become less visible now. But relatively bright nights and a full moon this week allow you to show all the landscape's beauty in your pictures.

Let's see the updated 27-day forecast following Monday.
