A calm week with the maximum Kp4 on Tuesday

May 15, 2023

Step’s Aurora Guide app shows 27-day aurora forecast based on data from SWPC

The 27-day forecast shows low solar activity this week, with the maximum Kp4 geomagnetic activity level predicted on Tuesday. The forecast for the next week is much more promising.

The aurora season is over in all popular northern lights regions except Churchill in Canada. If the sky is clear, you can still capture the beautiful northern lights there this week. As for the year-round aurora regions in both hemispheres, this week doesn't promise enough solar activity for those regions. But it is worth checking the 3-day forecast as the sun can surprise you any time now.

The moon will not illuminate the landscape this week. It's good news for Milky Way photography, an alternative for the aurora photography in the coming month.

Let's see the updated 27-day forecast following Monday.
