Kp5 at the end of the season in the northernmost regions

May 22, 2023

Step’s Aurora Guide app shows 27-day aurora forecast based on data from SWPC

The 27-day forecast predicts the maximum Kp5 geomagnetic activity level on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The 3-day forecast could be more optimistic and expects the Kp5 level on Tuesday and Wednesday. It's for the UTC timezone. Check the 3-day forecast to see what to expect in your location.

This week is the last one when it's dark enough to see the northern lights in Churchill, Canada. The aurora forecast is good, but the weather could be better for those short dark hours in the middle of the night.

As you can see, the 27-day forecast doesn't predict a good level of geomagnetic activity in the following weeks. It's time to switch to Milky Way photography for all night sky lovers. But keep an eye on the aurora forecast. The sun can surprise you anytime now.

The moon becomes brighter and sets later each day. It's good news for aurora photography as it will illuminate the landscape. But not good news for Milky Way photography as you need a dark sky for it.

Let's see the updated 27-day forecast following Monday.
